Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager - Civil Engineering, the skilled Civil Engineer is responsible for providing and managing civil engineering technical support related to Squadron Energy renewable energy infrastructure projects, including wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and other sustainable energy initiatives.
The successful candidate will provide critical civil engineering expertise across the early project lifecycle, from development through to Final Investment Decision (FID). This position requires a blend of civil technical expertise, basic civil design skills, geotechnical knowledge and interpersonal skills.
This role will/may involve travel to other office locations and sites to engage and liaise with broader Squadron Energy (SQE) teams and external stakeholders. This position can be based in either our Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney office.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide civil engineering technical support across Project Origination, Project Development and Pre-Construction stages.
- Undertake constructability assessment to identify project risks, constraints and areas for further studies.
- Develop and review conceptual civil design, including earthworks, roadworks, concept drainage system.
- Prepare and review technical reports, engineering specifications and quantities take-offs.
- Ensure civil designs comply with relevant codes, regulations, industry standards including environmental and safety standards.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Apply innovation and value engineering design principles to enhance project deliverables and optimise project lifecycle costs.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Experience and knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering, ideally within the renewable energy sector.
- Strong foundation in civil engineering principles, including geotechnical, structural and hydrologic/hydraulic.
- Familiar with civil project development procedures and construction methodologies.
- Understand of environmental and sustainability consideration in renewable energy projects.
- Fundamental skills in civil engineering software (e.g., Civil 3D, AutoCAD, 12D, InfraWorks)
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Comfortable conducting site visits, which may involve walking on uneven terrain and exposure to various weather conditions.
- Professional engineer accreditation (Member of Engineers Australia)
- Australian driver's licence
- General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
