About the Department:
The Department of Education recognises the unique learning differences associated with reading and writing disorders, including dyslexia. The department is committed to ensuring that all students receive the support needed to access, participate and achieve success at school.
About the role:
This role will be responsible for a range of key pieces of work within the Language and Literacy portfolio. It requires expert knowledge on how reading develops, reading and writing disorders including dyslexia and Developmental Language Disorder, and evidence informed approaches to supporting reading development for diverse learners.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide in person and online professional learning, advice and support for educators, allied health professionals and parents on the development of spoken and written language and the prevention, identification and intervention for reading and writing disorders, including dyslexia, to support achievement of quality educational outcomes in schools;
* Deliver a highly subscribed Reading and Writing Disorders Service and Advisory Line for leaders, educators and parents of children from Birth to 18 years and across educational sectors;
* Support schools to implement an evidence-based whole school approach to supporting students with reading and/or writing disorders.

* The confidence, skills and knowledge to successfully deliver professional learning to a range of audiences
* Capacity to develop and manage interpersonal relationships and establish productive partnerships within schools, clusters, regional personnel, external agencies and families where required
* Knowledge of relevant departmental policies and procedures and their application to students with reading and/or writing disorders
* Knowledge of contemporary best-practice frameworks and evidence-informed methodologies regarding the education of students with reading and/or writing disorders, including application within an inclusive curriculum context, and embedding adjustments including assistive technologies
* Commitment to outcomes-based performance
* Data analysis skills
* Project management skills
* Track record of achievement within complex and challenging environments.
